"It derives from a collection of sound games: Phil played with sounds ranging from hard drives, boilers, and old tracks obscured by stacked FX, fascinated by the details and various levels of sound processing. What results is a collection of static sound pieces and gorgeous ambient drones interrupted by discordant industrial clangs and radio interference akin to Ian Martin’s Mechanical Rain. smll hnd / dctfl hnd could almost be an alternate soundtrack to Jonathan Glazer’s Under The Skin: it’s the sound of 21st century existence; alienated and frozen, yet luminous and thriving in liminal spaces."
